Founded in 2002 The Alliance for Coffee Excellence (ACE) is a non-profit global organization that strives to promote excellence in coffee. Its main program The Cup of Excellence® (COE)- is a trademarked stringent competition program followed by a global on-line auction resulting in huge premiums for coffee farmers.  COE is a  revolutionary program with far reaching effects into the specialty coffee industry and for high quality farmers. It is presently managed in 10 countries.  ACE also provides training and technical assistance and works to support coffee quality, transparency and infrastructure development in coffee producing countries.

Job Title: Executive Director

Position Location: Prefer Portland, Oregon

Job Description:

Reporting to the Board of Directors the Executive Director has overall strategic, management and operational responsibility for the organization, its staff, its expansion and the successful execution of its mission.  The Executive Director position is an opportunity for a high level manager to make a huge difference and be intimately involved in the global world of top quality coffee.


  • Complete Oversight of Cup of Excellence

 -      Full oversight and ownership of Membership Development and program benefits

  • Staff Management and Motivation

-       Management of office, staff and consultants

-       Hiring, training and team building

  • Financial Management and Revenue growth

-       Management of fiscal integrity and reporting

-       Annual Budget, Strategic Planning and Implementation

  • Manage Marketing and Public Relations

-       Marketing, PR, Editing, Writing

-       Public speaking

-       Oversee conferences and events

  • Oversight of Training and Educational programs

-       Develop, update and manage training and education programs

  • Oversight of Contracts and Outside Projects

-       Legal Management: non profit structure, trademarks, tax filings, country partner contracts, NGO sub contracts, consultant contracts

  • Work Closely with and support Board of Directors and Committees

-       Board of Directors Support and Coordination

  • Develop Positive Partnerships with coffee organizations, NGOs governmental bodies partner organizations

-       Partnership Development

  • General Administration

-       Management of Human Resources administration and Benefits

-       Oversight of Information and Data

-       Website Technology Management





  • Foreign language a plus- Spanish preferred-English required
  • Undergraduate qualification 


  • Ten plus years of high-level managerial experience in coffee or related industry, an international non-profit organization or NGO
  • International experience mandatory
  • Specialty coffee knowledge and experience a plus


  • High level of integrity, creative thinker, entrepreneurial spirit, tenacious
  • Excellence in organizational management and team development
  • Strong written and verbal communication- public speaking a must
